The Butterfly House – Cervia
ROTONDA CADORNA – Milano Marittima
The large butterfly installed in the roundabout colour itself with thousands of red Begonias, reminiscent the new logo of the Butterfly House of Milano Marittima, while the soil is dotted with groups of annual and perennial plants, whose flowers are particularly fond the butterflies.
The predominant colour is red, the colour of vital energy, both mental and physical, of courage and grit, essential elements in sports.
The flowerbed is the symbol of one of the main attractions in Cervia, the House of Butterflies in Miano Marittima. This innovative environmental education centre was set up by the municipal administration of cervia, the province of Ravenna and the tourism department of te Emilia Romagna region. Today it is the centre for biodiversity conservation and for an in-depth focus on the world of insects. The reconstruction of a big tropical forest, in a greenhouse of over 500 mq, allows to admire hundreds of butterflies with spectacular colours from different parts of the world, while in the House of insects, a pavilion dedicated to the world of invertebrates, visitors can live a close contact with extravagant insects. In the big garden you can visit a botanical path with typical plants of pinewoods and the Worm, a greenhouse which houses some species of local butterflies.
The green area is set up on the theme of “European”, 60 years after the signing of the Treaties of Rome, the agreements through which, in 1957, six European countries laid the foundations for a united Europe. The surrounding area has been partly furnished with Senecio cineraria and Tagetes patula giallo flowerbeds, creating euro-shaped designs and mixed flower beds for butterflies.
Like last year, the entrance of the Butterfly House is colored, with the creation of two large beds where a mix of rosemary, Salvia, Callistemon, Buddleie and Cariopteris, alternates with a varied border of annuals loved by butterflies.
