A splendid tree from a seed for peace
In 2011, the twinning between Aalen and Cervia sealed a long-standing friendship, founded on many common values, including those for peace and the union of European peoples. To testify to the common commitment against the war, in 2015 Aalen donated to Cervia (and its other twin cities) seeds from a plant that survived the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
These seeds were planted in the park of the Montaletto school, where it is now possible to admire “Pacifico” a splendid ginkgo biloba, which has strong roots and continues to grow, like the commitment of both cities to peace. In the garden in the heart of Milano Marittima remains the sculpture of the she-wolf, created by the artist Oscar Dominguez, in the Dante’s forest created for the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet.
Cervia, Lead City for Italy and Aalen, both join the Mayors for Peace network.
