Sustainable flowerbeds and insect hotels in the centre of Milano Marittima
For more than 30 years, the Ostalbkreis has been twinned with the province of Ravenna. In the large area of the Rotonda primo Maggio they wanted to commemorate this important anniversary with a plaque recalling the 9 twinnings between the German and Italian cities of the two provinces. In the garden, the outline of the Ostalb province made of flowers encloses metal sculptures symbolising the 9 German cities.
But the most valuable innovative element, under the motto “sustainability and urban biodiversity, is the insect hotel where insects can nest safely set in large flower beds with sustainable plants such as Cysts, Lavender, Yuccas, Stipes. The garden is completed by the logo of the province of Ostalb, a lion’s head and an eagle, separated by an abbot’s staff, created by the technical school of Aalen.
